Some are really non- profit web-based company !!

My first concern was that how does Wikipedia earn money, because I hardly see any advertisements on it.  Yes it is a non-profit organization and it works same like NPR. The minimum money required for its servers and the employers who work for it is provided from the donations acquired by Wikimedia foundation. That is really strange for a company which ranks sixth in its popularity. Also I had heard about the free advertisements on craigslist, so I was curious how does it make money. But craigslist also is a partially non-profit organization. The minimum revenue to run the site comes from the people who post jobs in the website. Moreover, a revenue also comes from brokered apartment listings, and also some donations.  Finally I switched to search how blogger makes money ?
The older version blogger could easily make money. It had few features open to all, but for the advanced version one had to buy it and also pay the money for the site. But after google company bought blogger, it is open and free to all its users. Blogger collects its revenue from the ads that are on the top right of blog page. Besides some of the active blogs make money through advertisements, a part of which goes to blogger company. Some of the bloggers even pay for making their avatars on their blogs. I also found some case studies where some active blog holders made $100000 per month.  Some of them have even made a huge business through blogger eg:  Johns Wu, 22 year old did sell his blog for $15 Million.  The article - http://www.incomediary.com/top-earning-blogs/  shows how bloggers can make lot money by maintaining their blogs. But on the whole the blogger company does not collect much money for google. The one purpose it serves google is to help people better  know  its  services.  May be the owners of google have a better idea later to make profit from the blogger.
