Hick's Law

Hick's law was something that I took interest in when I learned about it. As a hobby I like to design user interface kits for apps for sites like Dribbble and think about the easiest way for a person to interact with a given device or piece of software. Having an intuitive interface for any given idea not only requires a good taxonomy/icon design, but a well planned layout. This means that the designer must complete several forms of task analysis to make sure that the end user is having the best experience that you can provide them with.

User experience and user interface design are two aspects of interactive design that I enjoy very much. In regards to Hick's Law, the less options a user is presented with, the easier their choice of where to start becomes. This doesn't mean that with only 1 choice that the user will have a good interaction with whatever they are interacting with, but they won't have to spend time thinking about what to do. This is where more in depth user interfaces have to make tough decisions on what choices they want to present their user with. After reading more about this law, I have found new ways to think about designing for a better experience.
